A urinalysis is a group of physical, chemical, and microsc   opic tests. The tests detect and/or measure several substances in the urine, such as byproducts of normal and abnormal metabolism, cells, cellular fragments, and bacteria.

Urinary diversion is any one of several surgical procedures to reroute urine flow from its normal pathway. It may be necessary for diseased or defective ureters, bladder or urethra, either temporarily or permanently. Some diversions result in a stoma.

Urologic cancer affects the organs of male & female urinary system and the reproductive system.

Types of urologic cancers include

Bladder cancer most often begins in the cells (urothelial cells) that line the inside of your bladder. Doctors treat 71,000 people in the United States with bladder cancer every year.

Kidney cancer forms in small tubes that purify blood of kidneys. Renal ureter cancer is a rare form of this disease. It takes place in the part of kidney that connects to the bladder. Doctors diagnose 49,100 cases of renal pelvis cancers every year.

Testicular cancer occurs in the testicles which are located in the scrotum. The testicles produce male sex hormones. Doctors treat around 8,400 cases in U.S Every Year.

Penile cancer is rare. It affects the male reproductive organ.

Urethral cancer occurs in the urethra that conducts urine from the bladder to the outside of body. In men, the urethra travels through the penis in which it also carries semen.

Track 17: Laparoscopic/robotic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery permits a surgeon to access inside the abdomen and pelvis. This is achieved by using Microscopic instruments placed through portals inserted through keyhole .Visualization of the internal anatomy is provided by digital camera attached to a telescope lens inserted through one of the trocar sites. As the incision size likely to be smaller than for open surgery, postoperative pain is reduced .More recently, robotic surgery introduced into the field of urology has gradually replaced many of the laparoscopic methods due to advancements in visualization and ergonomics. 

Improved optical technology provides not only a high definition, 10-12 X magnified view but also a three-dimensional depth perception of the internal anatomy. Instead of rigid instruments used during surgery, advancements in multi-jointed robotic instruments permit the surgeon to operate with same convenient freedom as using hands & wrists by providing greater extent of motion of instrumentation.
